The ideal activity to admire all the natural and historical beauty of Meteora. An easy but impressive route ideal for the whole family. The walk to Meteora starts from the square of Kastraki and after a while we enter the path that starts at the foot of the rocks. The paths of Meteora have a long tradition, as for centuries they were the only road used by the inhabitants for their movements. These paths connected settlements, monasteries and rural areas. In many places there were shaped cobblestones and retaining walls, works made with effort and passion. But the special feature of the paths of Meteora is the rock relief. In several places the paths pass over rock, which in some cases makes it difficult to pass. Here, the earlier users of the paths made elaborate interventions in the rock by carving it in the form of steps and traverses, while in other cases there were also wooden constructions with ladders, scaffolding, etc. We pass under the ruined Pantokratoros monastery, on the north side of the Doupiani rock. The route takes us to the heart of the green forest and reaches the abandoned and restored Ypapanti Monastery as well as the statue of the revolutionary fighter Papathymios Vlahavas. From there, the path leads us to the top of the rocks until we reach the impressive monasteries "Megalo Meteoro" and "Barlaam". Then we descend to Kastraki passing near the cave of Agios Georgios Mandilas where every year climbers climb to hang their scarves.
