Meteora Geological Formations Museum
The "GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS OF METEORS" Museum opened its doors to the public for the first time in May 2018.
It is housed in the old building of the Primary School of Kastraki, which has been declared a historical monument.
It is a two-story building with an area per floor of 230 sq.m. and a total area of 460sq.m., built on a plot of 854sq.m. in the central square of Kastraki under the sacred rocks of Meteora.
Upon entering the museum, the visitor is "transported" 30 million years ago and observes the geographical area of Meteora as a sea area. Then, with a brief presentation of the concepts of tectonic uplift and erosion, the current formation of Meteora is presented.
The museum has a total of three rooms:

Room A (ground floor) waiting area, presents general images of Meteora and audio-visual material. Here visitors can watch a 15-minute video on the creation of Meteora and the nearby Koziaka Mountains.

Room B (ground floor) introduction to General Geology tries to convey to the visitor how the earth, rocks and minerals are created. Fossils, minerals and rocks from all over Greece are exhibited here.

Hall C (floor) is the largest single space of the museum. Here is how Meteors are created.
